Pac-12 Targets Four Mountain West Schools for 2026 Expansion, Announcement Expected Thursday
Sep 12, 2024, 04:13 AM
The Pac-12 is mobilizing efforts to rebuild the league by targeting four schools from the Mountain West Conference. Oregon State and Washington State are leading the initiative to add Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State to the Pac-12. The schools are expected to apply for membership and an official announcement could come as soon as Thursday morning. The move, estimated to cost tens of millions of dollars, aims to stabilize the Pac-12, which currently consists of only two teams, and provide a more secure future for its members. The Mountain West schools are anticipated to join the Pac-12 for the 2026-27 competition year. The Pac-12 will assist the departing schools with their exit fees, estimated at roughly $18 million per school.
