June 2024 Hottest on Record for 13th Straight Month, 2024 Could Be Hottest Year
Jul 8, 2024, 06:31 AM
June 2024 has been officially recorded as the hottest June on record, according to the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). This marks the 13th consecutive month of record-breaking global temperatures, with the past 12 months averaging 1.64 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels. The global temperature in June was 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average for the 12th consecutive month. The EU climate monitor reported that the global average temperature for the past 12 months was 0.76 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average. Scientists suggest that these unprecedented temperature increases put 2024 on track to be the hottest year ever recorded.
