Ukraine Plans AI-Powered Drone Swarms and 30,000 Deep-Strike Drones by 2025
Dec 2, 2024, 10:10 AM
Ukraine is intensifying its military capabilities with advanced drone technology and AI-powered systems in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia. The country has already delivered 1.3 million drones and plans to significantly increase its reliance on unmanned aerial and ground vehicles. Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov highlighted the development of strike drones capable of reaching up to 1,800 km and the introduction of drone swarms by 2025. Additionally, Ukraine is developing interceptor drones to counter Russian long-range drones like the Shahed. A senior government minister stated that tens of thousands of uncrewed robotic ground vehicles will be needed next year to support infantry in the trenches by shuttling ammunition and supplies, and evacuating wounded soldiers. Helsing, a UK-based defense technology firm, has begun mass production of AI-controlled combat drones for Ukraine, equipped with software resistant to GPS jamming and electronic warfare. Ukraine has set a goal to produce 30,000 deep-strike drones, and Helsing has secured a contract to deliver 4,000 drones for Ukraine.
