EU Announces €120 Million Aid for Gaza as Ceasefire Set to Begin Sunday, Involving 33 Hostages and 1,000 Prisoners
Jan 16, 2025, 12:40 PM
The European Union has announced a humanitarian aid package of 120 million euros for Gaza, following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The aid is intended to address the 'catastrophic situation' in the region, with the package including emergency food assistance, medical aid, and equipment to improve access to drinking water. The EU's total humanitarian assistance to Gaza since 2023 now amounts to over 450 million euros, supplemented by over 3,800 tons of aid delivered by air. The ceasefire and hostage release agreement, mediated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, is set to begin on Sunday and involves the release of 33 hostages in exchange for approximately 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
