VisitIRGC Hackers Breach Trump's Campaign, Meta Warns of Utah Targeting
Aug 24, 2024, 07:45 AM
An Iranian hacker group, identified as the IRGC hacker group, has been accused of breaching the presidential campaign of Donald Trump and attempting to infiltrate various Utah government sites. The group, known for its sophisticated cyberespionage tactics, allegedly placed surveillance software on mobile devices to record calls, steal texts, and activate cameras and microphones. Meta's investigators linked this activity to a network posing as tech support agents for major companies like Microsoft and Google, and warned US presidential campaigns after discovering malicious activity on the WhatsApp messaging service. The hackers also targeted Utah's geological data, oil, gas, and other resources, according to a state law enforcement notice.
