Ninth Circuit Narrows Injunction on California's Child Online Safety Law Over First Amendment Concerns
Aug 16, 2024, 05:00 PM
A federal appeals court has narrowed an injunction that previously blocked California from enforcing a law aimed at protecting children online. The law, known as the Age-Appropriate Design Code, was challenged on First Amendment grounds. The Ninth Circuit Court affirmed the district court's decision to block parts of the law, citing concerns over free speech. Online companies and free speech advocates argue that the law infringes on First Amendment rights. Additionally, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is under scrutiny for its potential impact on online speech. Online giants have until Oct. 1 to make changes to comply with regulations aimed at reducing minors' use of their services.
