Olivia Reeves Sets World Record, Wins U.S. Olympic Weightlifting Gold at Paris 2024

Olivia Reeves, a 21-year-old college student from Chattanooga, has made history by winning the United States' first Olympic gold medal in weightlifting in 24 years at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Competing in the 71kg category, Reeves set a new Olympic record by snatching 117kg (258 lbs). This victory marks the first time the U.S. has won both women's and men's weightlifting medals at the same Olympics. Reeves' achievement is particularly notable as she is the youngest U.S. weightlifter to win Olympic gold since 1956. Her success continues the legacy of Tara Nott-Cunningham, who won the last U.S. weightlifting gold in 2000. Reeves also set a world record during her performance.
