HDMI 2.2 Unveiled at CES 2025 with 96Gbps Bandwidth, Ultra96 Cables, and Latency Indication Protocol
Jan 6, 2025, 05:32 PM
At CES 2025, the HDMI Forum announced the HDMI 2.2 specification, which supports a bandwidth increase to 96Gbps, doubling the capacity of the previous HDMI 2.1b standard. This new specification will require the use of new 'Ultra96' cables to fully utilize its features. HDMI 2.2 aims to support higher resolutions and refresh rates, including 4K at up to 480Hz, 8K at up to 240Hz, and 10K at 120Hz. Additionally, it introduces a Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) to improve audio and video synchronization, particularly beneficial for multi-device setups. The specification will be available to HDMI 2.x adopters in the first half of 2025, though consumer devices supporting HDMI 2.2 may not be available for some time.
