'Shogun' Breaks Emmy Record with 18 Wins, Including Best Drama Series, Lead Actor and Actress
Sep 16, 2024, 03:05 AM
'Shogun' made history at the 2024 Emmy Awards by winning a total of 18 Emmys, the most ever for a single season of television. The FX show won the award for Outstanding Drama Series and saw its lead actors, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, recognized for their performances. Sanada won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, becoming the second-ever Asian winner in the category, while Sawai won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, making her the first actor of Asian descent to win in this category. 'Shogun' is also the first majority non-English language series to win Best Drama Series at the Emmys. Co-creator Justin Marks highlighted the show's theme of translation, emphasizing what is found rather than what is lost. The series also won awards for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Guest Actor.
