Global IT Outage Disrupts Airlines, Banks, Media; CrowdStrike Update Causes BSOD on Microsoft Systems
Jul 19, 2024, 07:33 AM
A major global IT outage has significantly disrupted services across various sectors, including airlines, banks, media outlets, and emergency services. The issue has been traced back to a faulty update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, which caused widespread Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors on Microsoft Windows systems. The outage has affected millions of users worldwide, grounding flights, disrupting banking services, and taking media channels off the air. In the United States, 911 emergency services have also been impacted. The outage has affected countries including Australia, the UK, and India. Sky News is among the media channels that went off air. CrowdStrike has acknowledged the issue and is working to roll back the update to mitigate the disruptions.
