China Fines Seven Companies 2.6M RMB in Cooking Oil Transport Scandal
Aug 25, 2024, 08:38 PM
Chinese authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into a scandal involving the transportation of edible vegetable oil in tanker trucks previously used for chemical liquids. This practice, deemed extremely serious, has prompted a nationwide response from food safety authorities, who have pledged a zero-tolerance approach to illegal activities. The investigation has led to criminal charges against two drivers and penalties for seven companies, including a 2.6 million RMB fine. The State Council Food Safety Office has published findings indicating that the issue was initially reported by the Beijing News, revealing that fuel and food oil were being transported in the same tankers without proper cleaning.
