Displaced Lebanese Return Home as Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Takes Effect Despite IDF Warnings
Nov 27, 2024, 10:29 AM
A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect at 4 a.m. local time on Wednesday, leading to thousands of displaced Lebanese civilians returning to their homes in southern Lebanon, including the cities of Tyre and Sidon. Despite warnings from the Israel Defense Forces advising residents not to return yet, streams of cars filled the roads as people headed back to towns and villages that had been under Israeli bombardment for months. The ceasefire, brokered by the United States and France, promises an initial 60-day halt to fighting that could end over a year of sporadic conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah, which intensified in recent months, displaced over one million people, and resulted in over 3,768 Lebanese deaths.
