Russia-Linked Hackers Use FrostyGoop Malware to Cut Heat in Over 600 Lviv Buildings
Jul 23, 2024, 11:30 AM
Hackers used a new form of malware, identified as FrostyGoop, to sabotage monitoring equipment in a heating utility in Lviv, Ukraine. The attack, which occurred in January 2024, cut off heat and hot water to over 600 apartment buildings for close to 48 hours during freezing winter temperatures. Cybersecurity firm Dragos and Ukrainian authorities have been investigating the incident, which targeted critical infrastructure. The malware, linked to Russia, poses a serious threat due to its ability to manipulate Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
