Bill Bergey, a legendary linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles, has died at the age of 79 after a three-year battle with jaw cancer, his son Jake announced on social media. Bergey, who also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, was a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro during his 12-year NFL career. He was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Bergey's career highlights include nearly 1,200 tackles with the Eagles, 27 interceptions, 18.5 sacks, and 21 fumble recoveries. He was a three-time Eagles team MVP and contributed to the team's Super Bowl XV appearance in 1981. Bergey, who played college football at Arkansas State, was remembered as a model leader and a key figure in the Eagles' defensive turnaround in the 1970s.
