Israel's Cabinet to Approve U.S.-Backed Ceasefire with Hezbollah on Tuesday
Nov 25, 2024, 04:02 PM
Israel and Lebanon are reportedly nearing a U.S.-backed ceasefire agreement to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved the agreement in principle. The Israeli security cabinet is expected to convene at 5:30 pm local time on Tuesday at the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv to approve the deal. U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein has informed Lebanese officials of the decision. The proposed agreement includes a 60-day transition period during which the Israeli military would withdraw from southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah would relocate heavy weapons north. The U.S. has agreed to provide guarantees to Israel, including support for military actions against threats from Lebanon.
