Junior Doctors in England Accept 22.3% Pay Rise, Ending 18-Month Strikes
Sep 16, 2024, 06:03 PM
Junior doctors in England have voted to accept a government pay offer of 22.3% on average over two years, ending a long-running dispute that involved 18 months of strikes. The British Medical Association announced that 65.97% of junior doctors voted in favor of the deal. The agreement includes a 4% backdated pay rise for 2023/24, an existing 9% average increase, and an 8% rise for 2024/25. This resolution is expected to alleviate the impact of the strikes, which resulted in 1.5 million cancelled appointments and cost taxpayers £1.7 billion.
