Kamala Harris Gains Momentum with 80 DNC Delegates' Support as Biden Exits 2024 Race
Jul 21, 2024, 08:59 PM
With President Joe Biden bowing out of the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining significant support for her candidacy. Dozens of current and former Democratic National Committee (DNC) delegates have penned a letter endorsing Harris as the presidential nominee, with over 80 signatures already collected. The California Democratic Party has launched a whip operation to rally delegates to back Harris, including circulating an online form for endorsements. Maryland's top Democrats, including Governor Wes Moore and Representative Steny Hoyer, are also expected to endorse Harris, with Moore's endorsement anticipated as soon as Monday. Additionally, seven Democratic governors, including Jared Polis, Janet Mills, Josh Shapiro, Roy Cooper, Gavin Newsom, Kathy Hochul, and Phil Murphy, have already backed Harris. Members of the Legislative Black Caucus who are DNC delegates have also expressed their support for Harris in a joint statement. A source familiar with the DNC's efforts described the situation as 'coronating Harris.'
