Australia Caps International Students at 270,000 for 2025 Amid Migration Crackdown
Aug 27, 2024, 02:16 AM
Australia has announced a significant reduction in the number of international students allowed to study in the country, capping enrolments at 270,000 for 2025. This decision, part of a broader migration crackdown, aims to alleviate pressures on housing and infrastructure caused by elevated immigration levels. Education Minister Jason Clare revealed that individual caps will be set for providers, affecting large metropolitan universities and private colleges the most. Last year, nearly 600,000 student visas were granted, highlighting the substantial decrease in student intake. The international education sector, which contributed $48 billion to Australia's economy, is expected to feel the impact of these reforms.
