Taiwan is maintaining vigilance after a Chinese nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine surfaced in the sensitive Taiwan Strait near the Penghu Islands. Taiwan's Defense Minister Wellington Koo stated on Tuesday that the defense ministry has a 'grasp' of the situation. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when Taiwanese fishermen encountered the submarine and took several pictures, which later appeared online. The submarine was identified as a Type 094 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine belonging to the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy. The Taiwanese defense ministry continues to monitor the situation closely.
