China Leads World in Generative AI Patents, UN and WIPO Report Says

China is leading the world in generative AI patents, according to a report by the United Nations and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The report revealed that China has filed 38,000 generative AI patents between 2014 and 2023, significantly outpacing the United States, which has filed 6,276 patents in the same period. This positions China far ahead of other countries in generative AI innovations, such as chatbots. The data indicates that 54,000 generative AI patents were filed globally during this period, with 25% of these filed in 2023 alone. Companies like Tencent and Baidu are among the top entities contributing to China's dominance in this sector.
