South Korean author Han Kang has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Nobel committee recognized her for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life. Han Kang is best known for her novel 'The Vegetarian', which marked her major international breakthrough. She is the first writer from South Korea to receive this prestigious award. Born in Gwangju in 1970, Han Kang moved to Seoul at the age of nine. Her literary work has been widely acclaimed for its deep exploration of human experiences and emotions. The award was announced by the Swedish Academy on Thursday.
