Ukraine Bans Telegram on State Devices for Military, Officials Over Security Concerns
Sep 20, 2024, 11:43 AM
Ukraine has banned the use of the Telegram messaging app on state-issued devices for government officials, military personnel, special services, and critical infrastructure workers. The decision, announced by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on its Facebook page, was made due to security concerns, citing threats to national security. The ban, effective from September 19, was implemented by the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity. The restriction aims to prevent potential cyberattacks, phishing, malware dissemination, and other security threats allegedly facilitated by the app, which was founded by Russian-born Pavel Durov.
