Travis Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy, narrowly defeating Ashton Jeanty by 214 points in one of the closest votes in recent memory. Hunter, a two-way player from Colorado, received 2,231 points and 552 first-place votes, appearing on 93.32% of ballots, while Jeanty, from Boise State, garnered 2,017 points and 309 first-place votes, appearing on 95.04% of ballots. Many voters expressed difficulty in choosing between the two outstanding players, with some wishing they could split their first-place vote. Some noted that Jeanty's performance would have earned him the award in any other year. Hunter's exceptional play on both offense and defense ultimately secured him the prestigious award.
