San Bernardino and Newsom Act on Homelessness with $130.7M Funding, Supreme Court Ruling
Oct 4, 2024, 06:33 PM
San Bernardino is set to clear out homeless encampments in parks and open new shelters following an agreement with the ACLU. In a related effort, Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the awarding of $130.7 million in grants to various cities and counties in California to address homeless encampments. Sacramento will receive the largest portion, with $18.2 million allocated. Other notable allocations include $11.3 million for Los Angeles, $6.8 million for Antioch, and $5.4 million for Berkeley. Newsom emphasized the importance of these funds in supporting local communities' efforts to connect people experiencing homelessness with shelter, care, and support. This comes after a Supreme Court ruling allowing cities to ban camping and includes new accountability measures.
