President-elect Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on BRICS Nations, Including China and India, If They Replace US Dollar
Nov 30, 2024, 07:05 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that the United States will impose 100% tariffs on BRICS nations if they attempt to create a new currency or support any currency that would replace the US dollar in international trade. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump demanded a commitment from BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—as well as additional nations such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, that they will not pursue efforts to undermine the dollar's status as the world's primary reserve currency. Trump emphasized that any move by BRICS nations to de-dollarize or adopt an alternative currency would be met with significant economic consequences, stating, "They can go find another 'sucker.'" He asserted there is "no possibility of BRICS replacing the dollar in international trade." The BRICS+ alliance represents almost half the world's population, and Trump's hardline stance reflects his strategy to punish any challenge to U.S. economic dominance.
