Study Finds Lead, Arsenic, and Other Toxic Metals in Tampons Sold in U.S. and Europe
Jul 5, 2024, 05:43 PM
A recent study led by a researcher from UC Berkeley's School of Public Health has discovered the presence of over a dozen toxic metals, including lead, arsenic, and cadmium, in tampons sold across the U.S. and Europe. This research, the first of its kind to measure such contaminants in tampons, raises significant concerns about the safety of menstruation products used by millions of people. The study found these metals in tampons from several common brands. Future studies will focus on determining the extent to which these metals can leach out of the tampons and be absorbed by the body.
