US Air Force Tests Stand-in Attack Weapon from F-16 on November 7 at Eglin Air Base
Dec 3, 2024, 03:50 AM
The U.S. Air Force has successfully conducted the first release of the Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) from an F-16C Fighting Falcon. The test, carried out by the 40th Flight Test Squadron on November 7, 2024, took place over the Gulf of Mexico. The SiAW, a tactical air-to-surface missile, is designed to strike key time-sensitive targets. This marks a significant milestone in the weapon's development, as it was the first time the missile was released from an aircraft. The test utilized an inert jettison test vehicle (JTV) to evaluate the missile's release mechanism. The mission was conducted at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, and was documented in a photo by Staff Sgt. Blake Wiles.
