Washington Capitals Acquire Andrew Mangiapane from Calgary Flames for 2025 Second-Round Pick, No Salary Retention
Jun 28, 2024, 12:19 AM
The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Andrew Mangiapane from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, which was originally owned by Colorado. Mangiapane, a 28-year-old winger, is entering the final year of his contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $5.8 million and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Flames did not retain any salary in the trade, allowing them to clear up additional cap space. This move provides the Capitals with a significant addition to their roster, while the Flames gain more flexibility for future drafts and salary cap management. Mangiapane was also a King Clancy Trophy nominee and a popular teammate.
