The remains, found in Mandrin, France, have been identified as one of the last representatives of Neanderthals in Eurasia. This discovery challenges the history of ancient human relatives, revealing long genetic and social isolation before their extinction. The Neanderthal fossil, named Thorin, points to a specific branch similar to the Gibraltar Neanderthals. The study has been published in Cell Genomics.
