U.S. Army and Navy Conduct First Live-Fire Test of LRHW at Cape Canaveral
Dec 13, 2024, 03:09 PM
The U.S. Army and Navy successfully conducted a key test of the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), also known as Dark Eagle, at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This test marked the second successful end-to-end flight test of the All Up Round (AUR) this year and was the first live-fire event using a Battery Operations Center and a Transporter Erector Launcher. The LRHW system, which includes the Common-Hypersonic Glide Body (C-HGB), is designed to be deployed on land or sea, offering a capability to attack targets at distances up to 2,776 km at speeds exceeding Mach 5. The test signifies progress in fielding this advanced weapon system, with the Army planning to integrate it into ground launchers and the Navy into ship-launched capabilities. The collaboration aims to provide the U.S. military with a decisive advantage on the battlefield by delivering unmatched capabilities to meet joint warfighting needs.
