Dec 17, 2024, 05:05 PM
Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. are set to begin negotiations toward a merger, according to a report by Nikkei. The proposed merger aims to enhance their competitiveness against Tesla and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers in the evolving automotive industry. The two Japanese automakers are considering the establishment of a holding company under which they would operate, and they plan to sign a memorandum of understanding to formalize these discussions. The merger could potentially expand to include Mitsubishi Motors Co., as part of a strategy to consolidate resources and technological expertise to aim for a position among the top three global automotive groups.
