Iran and Russia to Sign Strategic Partnership Treaty in Mid-January 2025, Focus on Military and Transport Cooperation

Iran and Russia are set to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in mid-January 2025, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. This treaty will encompass provisions on investment, trade, technology exchange, and extensive military cooperation. A Russian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Ministers Alexei Overchuk and Vitaly Savelyev, arrived in Tehran to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and discuss the upcoming agreement. The visit also included talks on transport and logistics agreements, with a focus on the North-South Transport Corridor. Iranian President Pezeshkian emphasized Iran's commitment to completing the Rasht-Astara railway section of the corridor, which is a priority for the country. The Russian delegation extended an invitation to Pezeshkian to visit Russia early in 2025 to finalize the agreements.
