Putin Orders Mass Production After First Use of Nuclear-Capable Hypersonic Missile Against Ukraine, Warns US and UK
Nov 22, 2024, 04:39 PM
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia launched a new intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile, named 'Oreshnik', against a Ukrainian military facility in Dnipro. This marks the first time such a weapon has been used in the conflict. Ukraine claimed that Russia fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which, if confirmed, would be a significant escalation. Putin stated that the missile, which reached speeds of Mach 10 and is nuclear-capable, was used in response to Ukraine's use of American and British long-range missiles to strike Russian territory. He warned the United States and the United Kingdom that Russia could target the military installations of any country whose weapons are used against Russia. Putin also announced that Russia would continue testing the missile, begin serial production, and has a stockpile ready for use.
