The Colorado Avalanche have signed goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to a five-year contract extension, securing his services through the 2029-30 season. The deal, which carries an annual average value of $5.25 million and totals $26.25 million, was announced on Friday. Blackwood, who was acquired by the Avalanche from the San Jose Sharks on December 9 in exchange for Alexandar Georgiev and Nikolai Kovalenko, has performed well since joining the team, posting a 3-1-0 record in four starts with a .931 save percentage. The contract represents a significant long-term commitment for the Avalanche, marking their first such deal with a goaltender since Semyon Varlamov's five-year contract in 2014.
