Jeremiah Hight Arrested in Utah for Targeted Shooting That Killed 7-Year-Old on Colorado Reservation
Dec 26, 2024, 09:22 PM
Jeremiah Hight, a 23-year-old member of the Ute Mountain Tribe, was arrested in Utah by the Navajo Police Department's K-9 Unit and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Drug Enforcement for the murder of a 7-year-old boy on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. The incident occurred on December 11, when the boy, Zamias Lang, was shot while lying next to his father in bed, resulting in 24 bullet holes in their home. Investigators found 24 bullet casings from an assault-style rifle at the scene. Hight was apprehended on December 24 on a mesa west of Oljato, Utah, following a federal arrest warrant issued by the FBI's Durango office. The FBI had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Hight's arrest and conviction. Hight faces charges of second-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian Country, and using a firearm during a violent crime. He briefly appeared in federal court in Flagstaff, Arizona, and will be sent to Colorado to face these charges. The shooting was reportedly targeted, with Hight allegedly expressing intent to 'shoot up Zackieus Lang's house' prior to the incident.
