SAG-AFTRA Announces Strike Against Major Video Game Companies Over AI Concerns Starting July 26, Impacting GTA 6
Jul 25, 2024, 08:04 PM
SAG-AFTRA has announced a strike against major video game companies, effective July 26 at 12:01 a.m., due to unresolved concerns over artificial intelligence (AI) protections. The decision follows more than a year and a half of negotiations without reaching a new agreement. Companies affected by the strike include Activision, Disney, Electronic Arts, Insomniac, Take-Two, Epic Games, and Warner Bros. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher emphasized the union's stance against contracts that could allow companies to misuse AI to the detriment of its members, stating, 'Enough is enough.' This marks the second time in a decade that video game performers have gone on strike. The union represents 160,000 actors and is seeking stronger AI protections in its next Interactive Media Agreement. The strike will also impact the production of games like GTA 6.
