Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, has successfully raised $1 billion for his new AI startup, Safe Superintelligence (SSI). The funds were secured from prominent venture capital firms including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Sequoia, DST Global, SV Angel, and NFDG, as well as investors Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross. SSI, which was founded just three months ago, is now valued at $5 billion. The startup aims to develop AI systems that surpass human capabilities while ensuring safety. Currently, SSI employs 10 people and intends to build a small, trusted team with good character.
