VisitApple to Pay $95 Million in Siri Privacy Settlement; Users May Receive Up to $20 Per Device
Jan 2, 2025, 09:43 PM
Apple Inc. has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit accusing the company of violating user privacy through its Siri voice assistant. The lawsuit alleges that Siri was unintentionally activated and recorded private conversations without consent, which were shared with third parties, including advertisers. Affected users who owned Siri-enabled devices between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, may receive up to $20 per device, for up to five devices per user. Although Apple denies any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims. The settlement requires Apple to delete previously recorded conversations from before October 2019. The settlement awaits court approval, and attorneys may seek up to $29.6 million from the settlement fund to cover fees and expenses.
