Ted Cruz Wins Re-Election to U.S. Senate, Defeats Colin Allred 52% to 46%
Nov 6, 2024, 02:02 AM
Senator Ted Cruz has secured re-election to the U.S. Senate, defeating Democratic challenger Colin Allred. According to the FOX News Decision Desk, Cruz, who has been in office since 2013, leveraged his strong name recognition in Texas to portray Allred's positions as extreme. Early polling showed Cruz with a narrow lead, and as more votes were counted, his lead widened. With 62% of the votes in, Cruz was ahead by seven points. The Real Clear Politics average of polls had earlier shown Cruz leading Allred by four percentage points, 49.1% to 45.1%. Cruz's campaign emphasized his pro-life stance and linked Allred to national Democrats. Final results showed Cruz leading Allred by a margin of 52% to 46%. Cruz was up by 117k votes at one point, and his campaign held an event in Dallas. Cruz also ran ahead of his 2018 margin in early and absentee voting in the largest Texas counties.
