Federal Judge Issues TRO Blocking Biden's ATF Rule on Universal Gun Registration, Citing Second Amendment
May 19, 2024, 11:58 PM
A federal judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, has partially granted a nationwide Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the Biden administration's new ATF rule that aimed to implement Universal Registration Checks. The rule, which was scheduled to go into effect on Monday, would have required anyone selling even a single gun to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and complete gun registration paperwork. The TRO, which protects Texans, members of Gun Owners of America (GOA), Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), and Texas Firearms Association (TFA), halts the implementation of the rule for now. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed relief over the decision, emphasizing the prevention of what he termed an unlawful rule. The decision is seen as a protection of the Second Amendment.
