NYC Congestion Pricing to Start Sunday at $9 Peak Toll Despite NJ's Appeal
Jan 3, 2025, 10:47 PM
New York City's congestion pricing plan is set to commence on Sunday, January 5, 2025, following a federal judge's rejection of New Jersey's last-minute attempt to block the tolling program. U.S. Senior Judge Leo Gordon denied New Jersey's request for a temporary restraining order, allowing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to proceed with charging drivers entering Manhattan's central business district, south of 60th Street. The base toll for passenger vehicles during peak hours will be $9, with off-peak rates at $2.25. New Jersey officials, led by Governor Phil Murphy, have vowed to appeal the decision, but the tolling will begin as scheduled unless an appeal is successful before Sunday. The plan aims to reduce traffic congestion and fund improvements to the MTA's transit system.
