E3 Warns Iran on 60% Uranium Enrichment, Cites Resolution 2231 Ahead of UNSC Meeting

Britain, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, have issued a joint statement accusing Iran of escalating its nuclear program by increasing its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to unprecedented levels without any credible civilian justification. The statement, released ahead of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, highlights that Iran's uranium enrichment has reached 60%, a level far exceeding the limits set by the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and approaching the 90% threshold required for nuclear weapons. The E3 also noted that Iran has installed advanced centrifuges, further undermining the nuclear agreement. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has corroborated these findings, stating that Iran is the only non-nuclear weapons state to possess uranium enriched to such a level. The statement also references Resolution 2231, which outlines the framework for the JCPOA. The E3 urged Iran to reverse its nuclear escalation, de-escalate tensions, and return to diplomacy. They also warned of the potential reimposition of sanctions if Iran continues to violate its commitments under the JCPOA.
