Iran's Uranium Stockpile Reaches 32 Times JCPOA Limit, 60% Enrichment; E3 Warns of Security Threat
Nov 22, 2024, 08:31 PM
Iran has significantly increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60%, now totaling 32 times the limit set by the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This information was disclosed in a joint statement from France, Germany, and the UK (E3) to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The E3 expressed concerns that Iran's nuclear activities pose a threat to international security and undermine the global non-proliferation system. In response to potential reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions through a snapback mechanism, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that the country would withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Additionally, the Chairman of the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament warned that aggressive actions from the US before or during October 2025 could lead Iran to exit the NPT as a possible reaction. These developments reflect escalating tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program and its commitments under international agreements.
