Supreme Court Grants Bail to Former Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji in Cash-for-Jobs Scam Case
Sep 26, 2024, 05:19 AM
The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji in a money laundering case linked to the 2014 cash-for-jobs scam. The decision was made by a Bench headed by Justice AS Oka, who emphasized that stringent thresholds for bail and delays in prosecution cannot coexist. The court also noted that denial of bail and delay in trial cannot go together. Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in June 2023 after receiving approval from the Supreme Court. The bail comes with certain conditions imposed by the court.
