Tom Girardi Found Guilty of $15 Million Wire Fraud in Ponzi Scheme
Aug 27, 2024, 04:30 PM
Thomas V. Girardi, a disbarred attorney and former high-profile litigator in Southern California, has been found guilty by a Los Angeles federal jury of four counts of wire fraud. The charges stem from a scheme in which Girardi embezzled more than $15 million from his clients over a period of ten years. Prosecutors argued that Girardi ran a Ponzi scheme, misappropriating settlement funds intended for his clients. Despite his defense team's attempts to shift blame onto the firm's former CFO, Chris Kamon, the jury found Girardi responsible for the massive theft. Girardi, who was once celebrated for his work in toxic tort litigation and known for his connection to 'Real Housewives' star Erika Jayne, now faces sentencing scheduled for December 6.
