Judge Declares Mistrial in High-Profile Karen Read Murder Trial; Prosecutors Plan to Retry
Jul 1, 2024, 06:47 PM
A judge declared a mistrial in the high-profile murder trial of Karen Read after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The trial, which spanned four months, ended with a hung jury that remained deadlocked after nearly a week of deliberations. Karen Read, a suburban Boston woman, was accused of killing her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, by reversing her car into him and leaving him dead in a snowdrift in January 2022 after a night out drinking. She claimed she was framed by his fellow officers. The decision to declare a mistrial was made by Judge Beverly Cannone on Monday. Massachusetts prosecutors plan to retry the case.
