26-Year-Old American Activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi Fatally Shot by Israeli Forces During West Bank Protest
Sep 6, 2024, 01:28 PM
An American activist, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was fatally shot in the head by Israeli forces during a protest against settlement expansion in Beita, near Mount Sbeih, in the occupied West Bank. The 26-year-old, who held dual American and Turkish citizenship, succumbed to her injuries after being taken to a hospital in Nablus. The incident occurred during a weekly anti-settlement demonstration, which often sees violent crackdowns by Israeli troops. Eygi was participating as a solidarity activist. The U.S. State Department has acknowledged the incident, offering condolences to her family and stating that it is gathering more information about the circumstances of her death. This marks the third American killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2024.
