US Treasury Confirms Major Cyberattack by State-Sponsored Chinese Hackers
Dec 30, 2024, 08:23 PM
The US Treasury Department announced on Monday that its workstations were hacked in a major cyberattack attributed to China. The breach, identified earlier this month, involved a state-sponsored Chinese actor gaining access to some of the Treasury's workstations and stealing unclassified documents. The cybersecurity firm BeyondTrust notified the department on December 8 about the intrusion. The incident is considered a major cybersecurity incident, with concerns that the hackers may have accessed sensitive data with the potential to disrupt financial markets, steal intellectual property, or sabotage operations.
