Germany's Bayer's Monsanto to Pay $160 Million to Settle Seattle PCB Contamination Lawsuit
Jul 26, 2024, 12:35 AM
Bayer's Monsanto unit, owned by Germany's Bayer, has agreed to pay $160 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the city of Seattle. The lawsuit accused Monsanto of contaminating Seattle's storm-water drainage system and the Lower Duwamish River with toxic chemicals known as PCBs. The settlement includes $35 million allocated for PCB cleanup and $125 million for other claims. This is the largest single-city settlement Monsanto has paid. The company, however, did not admit liability or wrongdoing in the settlement.
