Japan Orders Mass Evacuation of 46,000 in Ishikawa Due to Unprecedented Rainfall, Flooding, and Landslides

Japanese authorities have issued a mass evacuation order for tens of thousands of residents in Ishikawa Prefecture due to unprecedented rainfall, which has triggered severe flooding and landslides. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued its highest-level alert, a Level 5 emergency warning, for the region, which includes the cities of Wajima, Suzu, and the town of Noto. This area was severely affected by a New Year's Day earthquake. The heavy rain has caused a dozen rivers to burst their banks, flooding homes and stranding residents. Nearly 46,000 people have been advised to seek shelter as local authorities continue to monitor the situation. 600 evacuated and one person reported missing.
